Why are there so many wires on poles?

The City continues to work with all utilities to upgrade and clean up all existing lines, feeds and services. This process includes removing wires that are no longer in use. It is a work in progress that will take time to complete.

PSEG has been working with the City since Superstorm Sandy to consolidate the Marshall Street and Madison Street substations and harden the Madison Street substation against flooding and constructing new electric circuits. Verizon and Altice (formerly Cablevision) have been working to remove old cables and cleanup existing wires.
